The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to acrylonitrile (AN), to provide medical surveillance, to train workers about the hazards of AN, and to establish and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to AN. These records are used by employers, workers, physicians, and the Government to ensure that workers are not harmed by exposure to AN.

There is an overall increase in the burden hour total from 1,999 to 2,120 hours, a total increase of 121 hours. The adjustment increase of 238 is due to an increase in the number of workers and plants; and, the program change of -117 hours is due to periodic x-rays being removed.
There was an overall adjustment cost increase from $144,628 to $169,554. The cost increase is the result of an increase in workers being covered by this standard, thus leading to an increase in both the number of exposure monitoring samples, 814 to 840, and in the number of worker medical examinations, from 594 to 714. And a program change of $31,952, the cost reduction is due to the removal of periodic x-rays during the annual exams.
