The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds, to establish and implement a written control plan, to conduct medical surveillance, to provide personal protective equipment, to train workers about the hazards faced working in and around beryllium, and to establish and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds. These records are used by employers, workers, physicians, and the Government to ensure that workers are not harmed by exposure to beryllium.
