This information collection allows BIA to obtain the information necessary to determine whether an applicant is eligible to acquire, modify, or assign a grazing permit on trust or restricted lands and to allow a successful applicant to meet bonding requirements, related to grazing on Tribal land, individually-owned Indian land, or government land.
US Code:
25 USC 3701, et seq.
Name of Law: American Indian Agriculture Resource Management Act
The BIA added space for the applicantsâ contact information to Form 5-5524 based on the permittee comments. Information concerning mortgage holders and non-permit grazing lands is needed for the BIA to prevent individuals from obtaining allotted grazing privileges when they are not bona fide, tribal-member livestock operators.
A new Authority to Grant Grazing Privileges (Form 5-5525) is needed only when a change in the beneficial owner of a parcel occurs.
Other increases and decreases in burden estimates occurred due to interest in grazing privileges, increased program accuracy due to technology and Departmental initiatives, and changes in respondent activity.
