Short Statement: Total estimated burden for the December 2016 supplement is somewhat lower (by 477 hours or 6.9 percent) than that estimated in the previous submission for this Supplement (2012). This revised burden estimate is based on the 2013 and 2014 CPS-FSS survey responses. The change is due to a decrease in the proportion of households with lower incomes or that were screened in after the food spending questions. Households with lower incomes answer a larger number of questions, thus a lower proportion of low-income households or households that were screened into the food security module, would result in a lower estimated burden. A smaller proportion of respondents were asked the full set of supplement questions, reducing the burden per respondent by 6.4 percent. In addition, there was a slight decline in the CPS sample size (0.5 percent). A change in average incomes or National economic conditions, could result in a change in actual burden for future supplements.
