The biennial survey of state criminal history repositories will be conducted for yearend 2014 and 2016. The survey will collect data to be used as the basis for estimating the percentage of total state records that are immediately available through the FBI's Interstate Identification Index and the percentage that include dispositions. All 50 States, DC and the five territories will be surveyed.

Changes have been made in the organization of the current survey. Significant effort was made to reduce or eliminate questions that tend to yield the same responses each year or where the information requested can be obtained from other sources. For example, Section IV of the 2012 survey, "Corrections Reporting," historically contained four questions that in previous cycles yielded similar results. These have been removed and expanded questions throughout the current survey concerning arrest and disposition reporting and records that are associated with domestic violence protection orders, wanted persons, mental health adjudications, and questions regarding records of persons who are ineligible to purchase firearms have been expanded or added. To account for recent technological enhancements to national and state criminal justice information systems and the way in which records are maintained, accessed and disseminated, the 2014 survey adds two additional sections: Section V: Criminal Justice Rap Back Services, and Section VI: Noncriminal Justice Rap Back Services.
