This collection is approved for one year for the collection of FY1995 data provided that ED comply with the pending condition of clearance. ED shall provide OMB an analysis of the annual variation in data reported by States. This analysis will inform the decision as to whether annual collection of these data remains necessary. This collection will not be reapproved without the above analysis. This collection is also approved as amended by ED on 5/8/96. In addition, we strongly recommend that the FSCS consider expanding its questions on access to the internet and access to electronic services to gather more useful information. See OMB memo (questions 5 and 6) for more detail.

The National Education Statistics Act of 1994 mandates the collection of data on the condition and progress of education in the U.S. NCES is to fulfill this duty by "acquiring, compiling, and disseminating statistics on the condition of education, including data on libraries.
