Terms of Clearance: Under the Paperwork Reduction Act and its implementing regulations 5 CFR 1320, this paperwork has been approved through September 1989 only to cover the pre-test of the survey. The agency shall resubmit the full survey for review prior to implementation. Principal concerns include length of survey and anticipated 60 percent response rate. Efforts should be made both before and after pre-test to trim number and scope of questions asked of producers before survey is submitted for re-review prior to actual survey. In addition efforts should be made to bring response rate to 85 to 90 percent level.

Abstract: THE SURVEY IS NEEDED TO UPDATE EXISTING INFORMATION RELATIVE TO HONEY PRODUCTION, POLLINATION, AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE BEEKEEPING INDUST TO OTHER SEGMENTS OF AGRICULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT. USDA WAS MANDATED TO CONDUCT THE STUDY BY THE SENATE AND HOUSE COMMITTEES ON APPROPRIATIONS IN THE 1987 APPROPRIATION BILL. HONEY PRODUCERS, PACKERS, IMPORTERS, AND BROKERS WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE SURVEY.
