Abstract: THE CPI HOUSING SURVEY COLLECTS DATA ON 40,000 RENTER OCCUPIED HOUSING UNITS INTERVIEWED SEMIANNUALLY AND 20,000 OWNE OCCUPIED UNITS INTERVIEWED ANNUALLY. THE SURVEY MEASURES PRICE CHANGE FOR THE RENT AND OWNERS' EQUIVALENT RENT COMPONENTS OF THE CPI, WHICH ACCOUNT FOR 25 PERCENT OF ITS TOTAL WEIGHT.
