The Marine Corps is collecting contact information from people who may have been exposed to contaminated drinking water while living or working at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987. This information is used to send these individuals official notifications and provide them with current research and updates about the water issue

The total cost burden has decreased due to a general decrease in the number of new registrants. There was a large investment in public outreach about the notification database after relevant legislation was passed. It is estimated that the bulk of individuals interested in being registered have already done so.
