OMB approves the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES, 0607-1024) as outlined in this package with the following conditions: 1) The Census Bureau will provide information to OMB through a non-substantive change request within 6 months of clearance on the detailed uses and needs of each data element collected in AIES; 2) The Census Bureau will provide information to OMB through non-substantive change requests as information is available about its plans for reviewing the data quality of the patient discharge question, its use in publication, and how the Census Bureau will evaluate its need on the AIES versus its placement on other surveys; 3) The Census Bureau will provide the final report on the cognitive testing results within 2 months of clearance; and 4) The Census Bureau will commit to improving NAICS measurement, including continuing work with BLS and other relevant agencies, and providing a summary of such efforts in the next ICR revision package for AIES.

Since survey year 2023 (collected in calendar year 2024), the Census Bureau has conducted the AIES on an annual basis. The AIES was created to integrate seven annual business surveys into one comprehensive survey. It was designed to combine Census Bureau collections to reduce respondent burden and increase data quality. The AIES provides the only comprehensive national and subnational data on business revenues and expenses on an annual basis. The survey covers domestic, nonfarm employer businesses with operations during the survey year. Data users of the AIES estimates include, but are not limited to, private businesses, educators and students, economic researchers, trade and professional organizations, and other federal agencies
