Abstract: Automated vital system regulations are necessary to promote the safety of life at sea on USCG certified vessels. The Coast Guard reviews plans, tests, and procedures to determine compliance and evaluate necessary manning of automated vessels. Respondents are owners, operators, shipyards, designers, and manufacturers of certain vessels. The statutory authority for the requirements is 46 U.S.C. 3306. This authority is delegated by the Secretary to the Coast Guard via the Department of Homeland Security Delegation No. 0170.1, Revision No. 01.2. (II)(92.b).
