The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrationâs (NOAAâs) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) requests the approval of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for an extension of the existing collection of information under OMB Control Number 0648-0373 for Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Vessel and Gear Marking. Regulations at 50 CFR part 635.6 require that vessels for which a permit has been issued under section 635.4, other than an HMS Angling permit, must display the vesselâs official U.S. Coast Guard or state registration number. Vessels using handline, buoy gear, harpoon, longline, or gillnet gear, must also display the vesselâs name, registration number, or HMS permit number on each float or highflier attached to the gear.
