This is a revision of a currently approved information collection in support of a final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The revision includes a provision to allow CACFP institutions and facilities that serve primarily American Indian or Alaska Native participants to serve vegetables to meet the grains requirement.
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides cash reimbursement and commodity assistance, on a per meal basis, for food service to children in nonresidential childcare centers and family day care homes, and to eligible adults in nonresidential adult day care centers. The USDA, through FNS, has established application, monitoring, and reporting requirements to manage the CACFP effectively.
This information collection is currently approved with 3,794,949 respondents, 16,213,093 responses, 4,213,211 burden hours, and no annualized costs. The final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (RIN 0584-AE88) is adding a new recordkeeping requirement related to the menu planning option in Tribal Communities into the collection. In addition, the rule is adding $305,000 in start-up costs that CACFP operators will incur as they update menus in response to the menu planning option. FNS estimates that 610 responses, 763 burden hours, and $305,000 in start-up costs will be added to the collection due to a program change. Once the final rule provisions have been incorporated into the collection, FNS estimates that this collection will have 3,794,949 respondents (no change), 16,213,703 responses, 4,213,973 burden hours, and $305,000 in annualized costs.
