The Warranty Rule requires warrantors to include in their written warranties on consumer products costing more than $15 certain material facts regarding terms and conditions. The Rule prevents deception by providing consumers with information to assess written warranty terms. The Warranty Rule does not require that a manufacturer or retailer warrant a consumer product in writing. However, if they choose to warrant a consumer product in writing, the warranty must comply with the Rule.

There are no program changes. The estimated total annual hours of burden has been adjusted downward from 242,296 hours in 2019 to 216,752 hours in 2022 due to a decrease in the number of manufacturers estimated to be subject to the Rule based on recent Census data (30,287 in 2019 and 27,094 in 2022). The decrease in annual hours of burden also decreases the estimated total annual labor costs, which have been adjusted downward from $32,981,332 in 2019 to $29,652,215 in 2022. This decrease in annual labor costs was offset by slight increases in the hourly wage rates for clerks (from $18.28/hour in 2019 to $18.75/hour in 2022) and legal support (from $26.20/hour in 2019 to $28.46 in 2022).
