Through the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages Business Supplement (QBS), the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) can quickly capture information on the impact of specific events on the U.S. economy. Information collected by the QBS will allow stakeholders and data users to evaluate the impact of these events in a timely manner, allowing policy makers to be able to make informed decisions. Increase of 169 hours due to email sample pilot test.
Each QBS survey is different and requires a unique burden assessment when it is fielded. Each QBS questionnaire is estimated to take an average of 5 minutes to complete. The time of 5 minutes per respondent was calculated based on experience with testing and prior QBS survey and Business Response Survey (BRS) burden estimates. The total estimated burden for each survey under the QBS will vary depending upon sample size. The total estimated burden for the 2022 BRS is expected to be 6,666.67 hours. This is 5,780 hours less than the previous survey conducted under the QBS collection, the 2021 Business Response Survey, because the sample size for the 2022 BRS is smaller (320,000 establishments) than the sample for the 2021 BRS (597,000 establishments).
