FEMA's Individual and Community Preparedness Division is seeking approval on this information collection for its registration of individuals and organizations for the National Day of Action.
As part of 6 U.S.C. Sec. 742 and Presidential Policy Directive 8 (PPD-8): National Preparedness, the President tasked the Secretary of Homeland Security to âcoordinate a comprehensive campaign to build and sustain national preparedness, including public outreach and community-based and private-sector programs to enhance national resilience.â These entities taking part in the National Day of Action register their planned events through this information collection effort.
The decreases in burden hours and in respondent costs from the last renewal resulted from FEMAâs surveying practice that limits the size of the survey variations to no more than 20 questions. That change effectively lowered the total annual burden hours from 15,000 to 7,174. The reduction in burden hours was offset slightly by an increase in the number of respondents from 50,000 to 86,115. There were no changes in the number of responses per respondent.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding the proposed collection of information, that the certification covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
