Owners, Charterers, Managing Operators, or Agents of U.S. Vessels must immediately notify the U.S. Coast Guard if they believe the vessel may be lost or in danger. The Coast Guard uses this information to investigate the situation and, when necessary, plan appropriate search and rescue operations.

The change in annual burden is an ADJUSTMENT (i.e., increase) due to a mathematical error in the agencies estimate in the previous submission. There is no proposed change to the reporting requirements of this collection. The reporting requirements and methodology for calculating burden, remains unchanged.
