The Secretary of the Interior, through the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), may solicit grant proposals from federally-recognized tribes and their Tribal Education Departments (TEDs) for projects defined under 25 U.S.C. 2020.
Congress appropriated $2 million to BIE, which became available in December 2014, for Tribal Education Department Grants (see âConsolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015â). These grants are âforward fundedâ and available for a limited time. Therefore, we are seeking emergency approval of this collection to allow us to solicit for grant proposals by May 15, 2015 and award grants by July 1, 2015 for the upcoming school year (2015/16). If we are not able to conduct this information collection, the grants will not be awarded in time and we will not be able to take action to address BIE-funded schools of this grant, resulting in the potential loss for tribes and TEDs to address problems surrounding their schools.
