Abstract: As part of a joint industry-NRC initiative, the NRC receives information submitted voluntarily by power reactor licensees regarding selected performance attributes known as performance indicators (PIs). PIs are objective measures of the performance of licensee systems or programs. The NRC uses PI information and inspection results in its Reactor Oversight Process to make decisions about plant performance and regulatory response. Licensees transmit PIs electronically to reduce burden on themselves and the NRC.

Short Statement: The burden is projected to slightly decrease from 85,300 hours for 446 responses to 81,250 hours for 425 responses, which is a decrease of 4,050 hours and 21 responses. The previous burden of 85,300 hours was based on 105 licensees responding quarterly at 200 hours per response (84,000 hours), plus 26 recordkeepers at 50 hours per recordkeeper (1,300 hours), for a total of 85,300 hours. The current burden of 81,250 hours is based on the permanent cessation of operation of 5 units (Kewaunee, San Onofre Units 2 & 3, Crystal River, and Vermont Yankee) and the projection of an additional reactor, Watts Bar Unit 2, which may commence operation in the 2015 timeframe. Because this extension will be applicable until January 1, 2018, the NRC conservatively assumes that this extension will apply to 100 reactors. Thus, 100 licensees responding quarterly at 200 hours per response (80,000 hours) and 25 recordkeepers at 50 hours per recordkeeper (1,250 hours), for a total of 81,250 hours.
