The information will be used to determine whether an alien who intends to be absent from the United States for a period of one year or more is eligible to preserve residence for naturalization purposes.
USCIS has decreased its estimate of the number of respondents from 621 to 515, a decrease of 96 respondents, based upon historical information on the number of receipts received. USCIS has also increased the estimated burden slightly from .53 to 6 hours per response to more accurately reflect the estimated burden per response. The combined decrease in number of respondents and increase in hour burden per response equals a decrease in the total hour burden from 362 to 315, a decrease of 47 hours.
