This information collection is critical to the integrity of the process for selecting Rural Business Investment Companies for participation in the Rural Business Investment Program (RBIP). The objectives of the RBIP are to promote economic development and the ceation of wealth and job opportunities in rural areas and to establish a developmental venture capital program to address unmet equity invetment needs of small enterprises located in rural areas.
The burden hours have been reduced from 6,446 to 112 for a difference of 6,334 hours less. This change is due to a substantial reduction in the number of respondents, in which no new applicants are anticipated and there is only one participating RBIC. Previously, the burden was based on 25 applicants and 3 participating RBICs.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding the proposed collection of information, that the certification covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a benefit, or mandatory);
