The U.S. and the European Union (EU) finalized an equivalency arrangement, under which organic products certified to the USDA organic standards or EU organic standards may be sold, labeled, and represented as organic in both countries as long as the terms of the arrangement are met.
We are requesting emergency review and approval of a new information collection. This new information collection addresses new reporting requirements under the recently signed EU  U.S. Organic Equivalence Arrangement. Effective June 1, 2012, this arrangement will allow organic products produced, processed or packaged in the U.S. or European Union (EU) to be sold as Âorganic in both countries without additional certification. This arrangement was entered into by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the authority of the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 (OFPA) (7 U.S.C. 6501 et seq.).
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
