The Standard requires that employers monitor exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories, provide medical consultation and examinations, train workers about the hazards of chemicals in their working areas, and establish and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to hazardous chemicals.

OSHA is requesting an increase to the existing burden hour estimate for the collection of information requirements in the Standard. In this regard, the Agency is requesting to increase the current burden hour estimate from 281,086 hours to 293,373 hours, a total adjustment of 12,287 hours. Additionally, the capital cost estimate has increased from $35,978,301 to $41,271,276 a total increase of $5,292,975. This increase is a result of an increase in the cost of medical consultations from $125 to $148 while medical exams increased from $282 to $336, and medical consultations and medical examinations from $407 to $484.
