The Form I-9 was developed to facilitate compliance with Section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, making employment of unauthorized aliens unlawful and diminishing the flow of illegal workers in the United States.
The Interim Rule, Documents Acceptable for Employment Eligibility Verification, 1615-AB69, currently at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requires a revision to the Form I-9. In order to begin using the form once the interim rule is approved by OMB USCIS is requesting emergency review of the Form I-9.
