To ensure that shipyard personnel do not enter confined spaces that contain oxygen deficient, toxic or flammable atmospheres, qualified (competent) personnel must test such spaces. Information provides individuals deemed qualified by the employer to conduct such tests, plus results and instructions.

OSHA is proposing to decrease the existing burden hour estimate for the collection of information requirements specified by subparts A and B of 29 CFR part 1915. In this regard, the Agency is proposing to decrease the current burden hour estimate from 348,394 hours to 312,774 hours, a total decrease of 35,620 hours. The decrease is the result of updated data indicating a reduction in the number of establishments from 717 to 639.
