Voluntary self-disclosures allow BIS to conduct investigations of the disclosed incidents faster than would be the case if BIS had to detect the violations without such disclosure.

There has been an increase in the number of companies submitting voluntary self-disclosures to BIS. This increase may be the result of increased awareness by exporters of the benefits of voluntary self-disclosure.
