Abstract: The NPIP is a voluntary Federal-State industry mechanism for controlling certain poultry diseases and for improving poultry breeding flocks and products through disease control techniques. The NPIP became operative on July 1, 1935, with the approval of the Secretary of Agriculture and under the authority of an appropriation made by Congress for the USDA, to be used in cooperation with State authorities in the administration of regulations for the improvement of poultry, poultry products, and hatcheries.
