Recent wildfires in the Western United States highlight the need for understanding the human dimensions of forest and wildfire management. Because the impacts on wildland fire extend into the private communities, understanding their response to the threat of wildfires is important. Public land management agencies need a better understanding of local preferences for wildfire management, particularly from residents in the wildland - urban interface.
