Abstract: If a proposed time/area closure off Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina is implemented, approximately 22 directed category shark fishing vessels will be required to install and activate vessel monitoring systems during the January 1-July 31 time/area closure period and approximately 6 shark gillnet vessels will be required to install VMS units and activate them during the November 15-March 31 time/area closure period. If the proposed time/area closure is not implemented, approximately 6 shark gillnet vessels will be required to install VMS units and activate them during the November 15-March 31 time/area closure
