Abstract: The keeping of medical records is implied by the requirement of adequate veterinary care in the Anmial Welfare Act (Section 13) and the 9 CFR, part 2.33 and 2.40. There are no minimum standards stated. This results in confusion as to what is required which in turn results in a wide variation of information collected on medical records. This information is to be collected and maintained by all licenses and registrants under the jurisdiction of the AWA. This agency will use this information to ensure that the animals are receiving proper medical care as mandated by the AWA.
