Abstract: The 2003 NAEP Assessment with encompass the two curricular areas of Reading and Mathematics. Since 1984, NAEP has obtained descriptive information from three different sets of respondents: students, teachers, and school administrators. Questionnaires are administered to students at grades 4, 8, and 12, to teachers at grades 4 and 8, to school administrators at grades 4, 8, and 12. This process continues in 2003. The student background questionnaires consist of two types of questions: 1) core questions and 2) subject-specific background questions.
