Abstract: Construction workers are known to develop occupational hearing loss early in their careers, becoming substantially impaired by middle age. Where engineering and administrative controls have not yet reduced occupational noise exposures to within safe limits, hearing protectors are the only option for limiting hazardous noise exposures. However, current studies indicate that fewer than 20% of carpenters wear hearing protectors when they are working in hazardous noise environments.
