The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council requires U.S. branches and agencies of foreign banks to provide balance sheet information quarterly on this interagency report to fulfill the supervisory and regulatory reporting requirements of the International Banking Act of 1978. The Federal Reserve also uses the data to augment the bank credit, loan, and deposit information needed for monetary policy purposes.
