The National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), known as the Nation's Report Card, is the only national representative assessment of student achievement. It collects nationally comparable assessment results which are linked to students background characteristics and characteristics of schools and teachers. This clearance request is clearance for the 1997 field test and for the 1998 full-scale study, which will focus on achievement in reading, writing, and civics.
