Terms of Clearance: OMB approves this survey in concept but is concerned that VA initiated the survey before receiving an OMB determination as to whether this survey: 1) is subject to OMB review pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995; and 2) is designed to ensure statistically valid findings and comparisons with other Gulf War studies such as VA's National Prevalence Study and CDC's Iowa Study. No later than 6/96, VA should meet with OMB to discuss the status of this effort and how VA will ensure that it can compare the results with other Gulf War initiatives. VA should describe amendments it has made to this survey that will facilitate such comparisons. In addition, VA should consult with OMB regarding other pending research efforts to ensure that it complies with the PRA when appropriate and incorporates the PRA process into its implementation plans and schedules.

Abstract: This information collection is a case controlled study to describe and elucidate the causes of Gulf War Syndrome. Participants will be 2,000 veterans of the Persian Gulf War who currently reside in Oregon and Washington.
