This survey will be used to profile State and Federal prison inmates nationwide; to determine trends in inmate composition, criminal history, and alcohol and drug use and gun use and crime; and to report on the victims of crime. The data will be used by BJS, Congress, the Executive Office of the President, researchers, practitioners, and others in the criminal justice community. No other collection series provides these data.
