COMMERCE IS CONDUCTING AN ASSESSMENT OF KEY SUPPLIERS TO THE U.S. SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY TO IDENTIFY WEAKNESSES IN THE SUPPLY BASE WHICH COULD INHIBIT THIS CRITICAL INDUSTRY'S ABILITY TO MEET COMMERCIAL AND DEFENSE PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS AS DEFINED BY THE INDUSTRY'S 15-YEAR BUSINESS PLAN. FEDERAL FUNDS, THROUGH THE DEFENSE DEPARTMENT, ARE ALLOCATED TO THIS BUSINESS PLAN, GIVING THE GOVERNMENT A DIRECT FINANCIAL STAKE IN REVIEWING INDUSTRY NEEDS.
