Reinstatement with change of a previously approved collection
OMB approves this information collection as amended by ED's 11/27/90 memorandum to OMB. In addition, ED has agreed to the followi terms: o ED will submit all revised questions to OMB. o ED should delete Qs. 46 to 51, 43 to 48, and 55 to 60 of Age Class 1, 2, and 3, respectively, of the School Characteristics and Policies questionnaire. As currently phrased, these items request subjective and vague impressions about a school's physical plant, and such information lacks practical utility. o In the stem for Questions 52 to 58, 49 to 55, and 61 to 66 of Age Classes 1,2, and 3, respectively, of the School Characteristics and Policies Questionnaire, ED should include the clarifying language that it has provided to OMB regarding number of students enrolled in these programs at the time the respondent answers, and regarding the fact th the count of students may be duplicated since some receive more than o of these services.

DATA COLLECTION DURING THE 1989-90 SCHOOL YEAR INCLUDES COGNITIVE EXERCISE IN READING, MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE, AND ACHIEVEMENT-RELATED STUDENT, TEACHER, AND SCHOOL BACKGROUND AND ATTITUDE QUESTIONNAIRES. RESPONDENTS WILL BE A NATIONAL SAMPLE OF STUDENTS AT AGES 9, 13, AND FOR THE 1989-90 ASSESSMENT. RESPONDENTS WILL BE STUDENTS AT GRADE 4,
