Abstract: THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF JUSTICE IS THE GOVERNMENT'S PRINCIPAL CRIMIN JUSTICE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY. THE INSTITUTE RECEIVES APPROXIMATELY 400 GRANT APPLICATIONS EACH YEAR, AND SPENDS ABOUT $10 MILLION ANNUALLY ON GRANT RESEARCH. TO ASSESS THE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE INSTITUTE'S GRANT APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS, THE INSTITUTE PROPOSES TO CONDUCT THIS ONE TIME SURVEY OF 1989 APPLICANTS.
