Abstract: PAST STUDIES OF NON-INDUSTRIAL PRIVATE FORESTS SHOW THAT FEW OWNERS UTILIZE THE SERVICES OF A FORESTER WHEN THEY SELL TIMBER. IF, AS SUSPECTED, THOSE OWNERS WHO WERE ASSISTED RECEIVED SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER PRICES IT WILL BE A STRONG ARGUMENT IN SELLING FOREST MANAGEMENT TO PRIVATE OWNERS.
