Abstract: THIS NATIONWIDE CENSUS OF LOCALLY ADMINISTERED JAILS IS NEEDED TO PROVIDE CURRENT INFORMATION ON INMATE POPULATION AND JAIL FACILITIES. THE LAST CENSUS WAS CONDUCTED IN 1978. DATA WILL BE USED FOR PROGRAM PLANNING AND POLICY MAKING FOR CORRECTIONS.
