CONGRESS HAS MANDATED THE COLLECTION OF NATIONAL ASSESSMENT SURVEY DATA. THE DATA COLLECTION WILL OCCUR DURING THE 1981-82 SCHOOL YEAR IN THE AREAS OF CITIZENSHIP/SOCIAL STUDIES, MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE WITH RESPONDENT AGES 9, 13, AND 17. THE DATA WILL BE USED BY POLICY MAKERS TO MONITOR CHANGES IN STUDENT PERFORMANCE OVER TIME IN THE UNITED STATES. THE DATA WILL BE USEFUL TO THE PUBLIC, RESEARCHERS, LEGISLATORS AND EDUCATORS IN DETERMINING CHANGES IN EDUCATION.
