Abstract: THE EGG PRODUCTS INSPECTION ACT (EPIA) PLACES RESTRICTIONS UPON THE DISPOSITION OF RESTRICTED SHELL EGGS. EPIA REQUIRES THAT PERSONS WHO PACK EGGS FOR CONSUMER OUTLETS HAVING 3,000 OR MORE BIRDS AND HATCHERIES MUST REGISTER WITH USDA. PY-155, REGISTRATION OF SHELL EGG HANDLERS, IS USED TO REGISTER EGG HANDLERS. USDA SHELL EGG SURVEILLANCE INSPECTORS MAKE QUARTERLY VISITS TO THESE REGISTERED EGG HANDLERS TO DETERMINE DISPOSITION OF RESTRICTED SHELL EGGS
