U.S. PACIFIC HIGHLY MIGRATORY SPECIES PURSE SEINE LOGBOOK U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (First Edition, July 2019) INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE LOGBOOK FORM (Please print clearly) INSERT THE FOLDED FLAP OF THE BACK COVER UNDER THE YELLOW COPY OF THE SHEET BEING WRITTEN ON. This will prevent the entries from being transferred to the underlying sheets. Keep the yellow copy for your records. Start a new logbook page for every trip. A trip begins when the vessel leaves port to go fishing and ends when the vessel returns to port. Complete one line of the fishing effort section for each day of fishing. Sign and date each original sheet that is submitted. TOP OF THE PAGE Enter the Vessel Name, Captain's Name, Coast Guard Document Number or State Marine Board Number (e.g. CF1234AB), Departure and Arrival Ports, Departure and Arrival Dates, and other gears used during the trip (if applicable). A trip begins when the vessel leaves port to begin fishing. A trip ends when the vessel arrives in port and sells its catch. Landing Information: Enter the port landed, unloading date, short tons of fish unloaded, species unloaded, and record all landing receipt numbers from all sales. DAILY FISHING SECTIONS Start a new line for each set 1. DATE: Enter the date for each set. 2. LOCATION (LAT/LONG): Enter the haul location (to the nearest minute). 3. AIRCRAFT USED: Enter “Y” if an aircraft was used during this trip. 4. SPECIES: Species caught during this set. 5. FISH KEPT: Enter the amount of fish kept in short tons. 6. BYCATCH: List the species caught and the short tons discarded. 7. COMMENTS: Record any observations related to fishing activities such as types of fish seen during the day, discards, movement of fish, water color, bird flocks, temperature "edges" or "fronts", etc. 8. SIGNATURE: Sign and date each page.
